What is Book Bingo?
Students have 9 weeks (from midterm to midterm) to read 5 books. Each book must be a different genre (type). The genres they read should complete a row on the Bingo Sheet below. Students should know their reading level based on their Star Reader reports, so the books they read need to be at their level or above. They should also be chapter books, unless the Bingo Box says otherwise. Each time they complete a sheet, they need to complete a different row. They should write the title of the book (underline titles) and the author in the Bingo Box. They must also complete an activity for each book. (See below)
Why do we do Book Bingo?
Research shows that the way to improve reading is to practice reading. In hopes of improving their reading skills, the goal is for students to read 15-20 minutes daily, not binge read to complete this project. The study of genres is also part of our 6th grade curriculum, so this introduces them to different genres. Many times they just want to read they same types of books over and over.
